Sand Boarding

IMG_1590So today we went down to Sechura at the very southern tip of the mission to go sand boarding. Essentially you hike up this giant sand dune with a board and slid down. It is just like snowboarding, but in the desert. This was one of the things they mentioned at the very beginning of my mission but I was not able to every go in Sullana, then spending the majority of my mission in Tumbes, almost a ten hour bus ride from Sechura, it was pretty much impossible. But I went this week, and it was a ton of fun, I loved it. I did bite the dust, literally more than a few times but it was super fun when I got the hang of it. The guys that took us out are exactly what you would expect somebody that owns a sandboarding business looks like. The surfer hair, a loos white shirt, shorts, big blue aviator glasses, and he drives a dune buggy. It was super cool. I rode in the dune buggy on the way back, only because I pulled the I am old card. Saying that it was my last time going and that I wanted the experience. So I kicked out the other two missionaries that were in their first transfer and I got to ride in it. It was a ton of fun.IMG_1584

The rest of this week was working in the area like normal. This is kind of hard training a gringo. Sheuerman is still having some trouble with the Spanish part. But that is normal. I am trying to help him out by only speaking English when I need to explain a word, otherwise it is all Spanish. I can tell he has not gotten used to life here yet when we walked outside and found a dead cat with its head smashed blood still fresh around it.

But that was about it this week. I will catch you all on the flip side.
